Closing The Year On A High Note

Here we are, ushering in the last Monday of the year and the decade! I truly hope this year has been one of gains, growth, and development. I hope you have met or exceeded whatever goals you set for yourself. I hope when the clocks strikes 11:59 you will look back with smiles and forward with ambition. Leave your bad habits, negative thoughts, and self pity in the past. Replace them with new, creative, positive, and prosperous idea and behaviors.

In the coming year, instead of being stifled by fear and uncertainty ask yourself what is it that you have to gain. I see so many people stuck in the same habits and situations because all they think about is what they might lose. They are afraid of changing jobs, changing cities, changing friend, changing romantic partners, changing majors, changing associates, changing habits, and changing their way of thinking.

Yes, there is a comfort in knowing, but there is no growth there. If you have reached the level of mastery and no longer find things challenging or interesting, it’s time for a change. The unknown is only scary until it becomes known.

In the next two days we will usher in not only a new year but a new decade. We have 10 fresh years to be and become more than we ever thought or  dreamed we could.  Bottled inside you are mentors, entrepreneurs, great ideas, cures, great works of art, educators, travelers, athletes, artists, coaches, CEOs, awesome parents, amazing friends, and bomb ass humans. It’s up to you to let that person shine.

Think of something you’ve dreamed of but never thought you could achieve, now go make it happen. It may take training, grit, patience, determination, and steadfastness to see it though, but I know you can do it. There may be setbacks and disappointment, but nothing great comes without failures. Failure shows us what needs to be worked on and refined. You will be frustrated, pissed off, discouraged, exhausted, and overwhelmed, but hold steady. There will be people who tell you that you are not good enough or don’t have what it takes. Mute their negativity. You are trying to do something they haven’t dared to do.

I once heard a chess enthusiast say, “if you see a good move don’t take it, look harder, because a better move is always there.” Study the board that is your life. Recognize your good moves, and then seek out the great ones.

Here is today’s Motivation

“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.”

~ Helen Keller
